Day 50: BLOG ADVICE PLEASE!

As many of my fellow military spouses know, when a deployment is looming, you tend to reevaluate certain aspects of your lifestyle. With a deployment and its attendant issues heading our way, I am no different in my need for reevaluation. One area that is currently up for review is my blog. So today I’m asking for advice from all of my wonderful followers.

I’m considering backing off from daily challenges in exchange for weekly goals. As disappointed as I am not to continue the basic principle behind the inception of my blog, I feel as if I need the change for a few reasons:

          a) In the not-so-distant future, I’ll be getting on that massively daunting roller coaster of deployment, and I have no idea when those loops and drops and spins will hit me. I’ll have enough daily challenges without adding my own.

          b) I’ve mentioned that I’m a consummate planner. To celebrate my proclivity for list-making, I was thinking about starting a Top 10 meme. And nothing simple, like your top 10 favorite foods. We’re going to exercise our brains with some creativity!

          c) And in all honesty, pretty soon I’m going to run out of ideas. It wasn’t easy thinking of 50 challenges…don’t know if I can come up with 50 more!  I don’t think I expected to get this far when it all started.

So what do you think? Would you all still stalk me if I wasn’t doing a daily challenge? Would you be interested in joining me every Tuesday for a Top 10 meme? Any creative ideas for future weekly challenges? I’d love your input so lay it on me!

And off the subject, does anyone know who I could go about getting my own button?

  1. I'll look forward to reading whether you're doing a daily challenge or a monthly one, but I agree that weekly challenge posts seem like a much more sustainable goal whilst you're getting loop-de-looped by the exigencies of deployment.

  2. Do whatever works for you. I’ll be still stalking as always. I don’t know about the button thing.. I paid someone to do my blog design and button, it’s going to be up soon:)

  3. I honestly wouldn't worry about blogging less. I usually post two, sometimes three times a week and I find that it takes my readers a couple of days at least to read each new post. With so many good blogs to read, it's hard to read every one every day. Besides, if you don't put pressure on yourself, your writing will be more enjoyable and, ultimately, better. You are embarking on what is a unique experience to many of us. I, for one, would love to hear whatever you choose to share about it.

  4. i would DEFINITELY still stalk you. 😀 haha. i think that's a great idea to do the weekly goals especially during the deployment.
Do what you need to do girl!

  6. Thanks for following my blog! I've heard from a few people about a feature in Military Spouse magazine. Can you tell me where/when this was? I guess I missed it! Thanks so much!

  7. I stole a button template for my blog, and made my own. Basically you take the html (easy to google for) save whatever your picture is (I like to use Paint :)) to a tinypic link or something similar. Plug in the appropriate picture and URL links like "fill in the blanks," and viola! Button! 🙂 There are easy instructions online if you just google them.

  8. I would still follow you — I enjoy your writing and completely agree that fewer well-written posts are much better than a multitude of mediocre ones. Good luck with your decision!

  9. Thank you all so much for the supportive comments!! I think I'll make the transition next week, although the perfectionist side of me wants to push it out until I hit at least the 60 challenge mark. And I appreciate those of you who passed along either technical advice or your go-to person for the button issue. Now I know who to ask the next time I can't figure something out (like how to get my signature on my page). I'm so thankful for all of you!

  10. Blogging should be fun, when posting doesn't fit in with the demands of your daily life then it must be sacrificed for the greater good! Your planning skills are being consumed by keeping everything in order and a pending deployment, focus on that, your readers will be here when you get back!

Thanks for your visit, FFF/MBC 😉

  11. Definitely would still read your blog! I know it's hard to post each day, and I can't imagine coming up with a new challenge each day. I wouldn't be able to do that!

  12. I would def still read you! A top 10 sounds fun, too 🙂

    I think it's important to blog when you want. If it feels forced or you need to take a breather we'll still be here for you. {{hugs}}

  13. Hello! Thanks for visiting over at my place.

    Nice to meet you too.

    Are you Air Force?

My husband JUST got back from a deployment. And will be deploying again with his new job after he retires. So I know all about that roller coaster.

  14. I will still stalk you 😉

I think you need to do what you think is best for you. I have this whatever works motto. I am really more lax on things when he is gone because I honestly do not need the added stress. It is not worth it….

  15. Hey there

I had tried WP but it was way more then I thought. I changed my reader and I hope that they now show up. Thanks so much for telling me
