Last week was Spring Break. And because of my job as a teacher, it was the first year in a long time that I found myself getting really excited about a week off from school. In fact, the last time the words Spring Break made me so giddy was my senior year in college when my friends and I planned the world’s most awesome road trip.
But I was only one day into Spring Break when I realized a lot has changed since that senior year road trip. I may have had a week off from school, but so did my kids. By Friday I was practically itching to go back to work because anything was better than listening to my children fight and whine all day long.
So after living through an interesting week of Spring Break, here are my…
Top 10 Differences Between Spring Break Then and Spring Break Now
10) THEN: Cheap beer
NOW: Good wine
9) THEN: Dancing at night clubs to the best songs on the radio
NOW: Dancing in my living room to the Kidz Bop version of the best songs on the radio
8) THEN: Getting in bed when the sun is coming up
NOW: Getting out of bed when the sun is coming up (because the kids don’t seem to understand they’re supposed to sleep in)
7) THEN: Hot dates with the hot centerfielder
NOW: Hot play dates at the hot playground
6) THEN: Spontaneous road trips
NOW: Spontaneous? What does that mean? Sorry, I have to plan my spontaneity.
5) THEN: Lazy days at the beach
NOW: Lazy days at home because just the thought of going to the beach with 2 young kids is exhausting in and of itself.
4) THEN: Trying to squeeze in as much partying as possible.
NOW: Trying to squeeze in as much sleeping as possible.
3) THEN: Doing absolutely nothing.
NOW: Doing absolutely everything you don’t have time to do during the work week like oil changes, haircuts, and dentist appointments.
2) THEN: The highlight of the week was having the freedom to hide my textbooks and not read a single word.
NOW: The highlight of the week was having the freedom to dust off a stack of novels and read as much as I want.
NOW: The highlight of the week was having the freedom to dust off a stack of novels and read as much as I want.
1) THEN: I was young and boasted an enviable alcohol tolerance.
NOW: Young? Not so much. Alcohol tolerance? Well, let’s just say I’m a cheap date.

Do you have fond memories of Spring Break? If you had a Spring Break this year, what did you do?
haha! cute list!
I love this post. I did not have a spring break this year. You would think I would have been out on Pensacola Beach with my husband and all of his friends. We didn't even realize it was Spring Break since it literally lasts for a month or so here. So my Spring Break was uneventful.
LOL! those were the days! and I don't get spring break off any more since I went from working in the schools to doing home health, boo!
Ahhh, the illustrious days of Spring Break gone by!
My kids has spring break the 3rd week of March (or there abouts). It was cold and icky (as it typically is in Colorado this/that time of year.
And I think I was sick, which made me twenty-sahdes of blah, so this spring break was a whole lot of nada. I'm in school, with no break, so my poor kids had to suffer the horrors of sleeping in, getting up when they wanted, fixing what they wanted for breakfast, playing all day, watching movies, etc. etc. It's a hard knock life for them, I tell ya.

ps. and because I'm a non-traditional college student (waiting until my mid 30's to finish), I never did have any of those Girls Gone Wild College Spring Break Party Debauchery-Clad weeks. Bummer. And somehow I don't think it'd be the same at 36. 😛
I am laughing out loud while reading these because they are oh so true! My daughter's spring break was the week before last…but it was 2 weeks long. I was so exhausted by the time she went back to school!
haha thanks for the laugh 🙂
I went to HI for my first Spring Break trip ever, and likely my last as I hope to finish my 12years of college next year. It was awesome, but man was I behind when I got back.
So hilarious but sadly so true….oh to be young again…I probably wouldn't last more than a few hours hahaha
This is all true, even though I don't have children yet the differences from a few years ago to now is crazy.
Awe I love this!!
Haha I love this
This was good! I did write about our spring break this year. The kids are at a great age for doing things so we took advantage of our area a bit. Still more I want to see and do someday!
This is absolutely spot on. Sharing now…
