My life is busy. I get stressed. I have chronic illnesses. And let’s face it, as a woman in my 40’s, I don’t recover from workouts and workloads, lack of sleep and lack of energy as quickly as I once did.
So I’ve learned to make wellness a priority.
What exactly does that mean?
It means I started studying and practicing meditation and mindfulness.
It means I listen to my doctors, whether that means having a life-changing surgery, cutting down on my screen time or trying a new migraine medication.
It means I make room in my budget for both Orangetheory Fitness and hot yoga because I love them both so much and the intensity of one is balanced out by the zen of the other.
It means I make time for things I love like pursuing freelance writing gigs, traveling, reading novels and going to the beach for paddle boarding and sunsets.
It means I go to sleep when I’m tired, I ask for help when I need it, I take deep breaths, I exercise five days a week but don’t beat myself up if one week it’s only four, I eat nutritious food but give in to cravings in moderation, I use a diffuser with lovely smelling essential oils and I practice gratitude for all the good in my life and the lessons learned.
Basically, I do what makes my soul happy and my body and mind healthy. And this is a daily, lifelong journey.
