Theirs is a story of love
That rises above.
Destined to be together
But too often forced apart.
     Geographically
     Circumstantially
In all its glory
Theirs is a true love story.
Theirs is a story of love
That fit like a glove.
First romantic interludes
Then a family of four.
     Spontaneously
     Wholeheartedly
In all its glory
Theirs is a true love story.
Theirs is a story of love
That needed a shove.
Deployment separations,
Homecoming readjustments.
     Resiliently
     Perseveringly
In all its glory
Theirs is a true love story.
Theirs is a story of love
That most don’t speak of.
How do you handle it all?
How can your marriage survive?
     Admiringly
     Forgivingly
In all its glory
Theirs is a true love story.
Theirs is a story of love
That rises above.
Once just a boy and a girl,
Now a strong husband and wife.
     Supportively
     Cumulatively
     Perpetually
     Undeniably
In all its glory
Theirs is still a love story.
I miss you Mr. Roller Coaster.  Come home soon.

  1. Wow, you just described my marriage with those words. We're not in the military, but my husband worked for the State Dep't. for the first 15 years of our marriage and would travel all the time. When he wasn't traveling he was working double shifts and weekends. It was a crazy life. Things have settled down now, but this poem brought back a lot of memories. Thank you for sharing this with us.
